Keep getting backstabbed : r/darksouls. I've been trying to get into PvP in Dark Souls, but every time I get invaded or invade someone, I get backstabbed. Most of the time, I'm even facing the enemy and all of the sudden BAM, dead. Backstabbed from the front (not a parry-riposte). Then every time I go for a backstab, I never get them.
I cant backstab while locked on, when i am free cam I can backstab just fine, and this isn’t just “oh you’re holding you’re shield up” or “go for an angle” like i have tried everything but I cant backstab??? this made backstab chaining difficult and i want an answer. note: i have seen guides (such as fightincowboy) backstab while locked on and i cant? like it is so weird. dont
Backstabs can override the i-frames of rolls, so if you roll away from a backstab attempt it would almost definitely result in a backstab, something that looks like this. There are ways to properly counter BSes though. Check out EWGF's Dark Souls BS PvP instructions video for starters.

This is a high latency game and I am fine with how Backstabs work. Find another means to punish chuggers if you can. I seem to be able to land Backstabs when I am 100% sure of what the enemy will do and can run to their back with no hesitation. You can't punish the chug with backstab but you can punish many rolling running and free parries.

start practicing on easier to BS enemies. try the aldrich faithful in anor londo for pivots, and the four pronged plow hollows in undead settlement for strafe stabs. roll backstabs are not optimal in pve, and even pivots are more of a pvp thing, although they do work well on some enemies. most of your backstabs in pve will be strafe stabs. start on a four pronged plow hollow. lock on, sprint

This game isn't just as Exciting. It doesn't feel like a proper souls game really. What I really want is Dark Souls 1 with Dark Souls 3 backstab mechanic. Because apart from the ultra abusable backstab system and the rather rubbish net code system Dark Souls was generally my favourite. Could do with optimising though.

Doesn't make the game unplayable, but still mind boggling. the reason you still got backstabbed is not lag or latency, and to avoid it in the future you just need to understand the mechanics of how backstabs work in ds3. someone comes up to your back and presses r1, this initiates the backstab grab animation. if you get out of the initial grab
