Morpheus May 30, 2015 @ 1:40am. Half Life 2 Episode 2 crash. I've been stuck at the bit on Half Life 2 Episode 2 on "This Vortal Coil" where Gordon and the Vortigaunt get out of the lift and the Vortigaunts are trying to save Alyx. As soon as the G Man says "Dr Freeman" the game crashes.
Went to steamapps directory, common, and deleted all of Half-Life 2 (be sure to back up any saves from Hl2 and Ep1. Reboot the computer. Reinstall HL2, followed by Ep1 and then Ep2. Start Ep2 fresh (doesn't take long to get to This Vortal Coil. Don't install any mods into Custom folder until you complete the chapter. This worked for me! YAY!

Open the door and get back to the car with Alyx. Drive straight. You will get to a roadblock. Turn left on a slope. Use the break to control the speed. Then turn left and drive under a fallen tree. Keep going until you get to a tunnel. When you drive out of the tunnel you will hear a stider. Luckily it won't be there. We need to defend against the first 7 waves of an antlion attack on the rebel base where Alyx is healing. This means using the turrets to cover the 4 tunnels and making one long defense against the waves of antlions. There are two turrets set to guard the entrances. The thing is, two is not enough. You will have to help the rebels to repulse the attack of the antlions. The first wave is easy. You will just have to put the turret where the light goes on. Then there will be another wave. This time 2 lights will light up. Everytime I get to the point when I am going to leave the Antlion shootout area with the Vortigaunt, as soon as I am going through that tunnel, the game crashes. It's not my drivers because they're up-to-date, it's not the files because I've verified the cache. Everything is installed, I am not running any mods.
